Questions about The Dwelling

Do I get my own hermitage?
Yes.

How many people are in my building?
You can be alone or with one or two friends.
Retreats are available for individuals, couples or small groups.

How much interaction is there with the staff?
Mondays and Thursdays are "quiet days."
Otherwise you can interact with staff or spend your retreat in solitude.

Do you serve meals to me in my building?
Each hermitage has a small kitchen well-stocked with breakfast food for hermits to prepare their own breakfasts. Noon meals are served in the dining room of the main building. The evening meal is picked up in the main building, at noon, and eaten in the hermitage. Hermits who prefer solitude may pick up their noon and evening meals at the kitchen and eat in their hermitage.

Are the buildings heated?
Yes.

Can I sleep in?
Yes.

Do you have a library?
Yes, in the Octagon.

Can I cook my own food?
You may cook your own breakfast. We cook lunch and dinner.

Are there outdoor fires?
Yes. There is an outdoor fire ring for general use.

What if I want to bring a friend, group or family?
Please do.

Are there showers?
In the Octagon and some hermitages.

Does each building have its own bathroom?
Yes.

Is there electricity?
Yes.

Is spiritual direction available?
Yes.

How long can I stay?
As long as you would like.

Are there hiking trails?
Yes, there are well marked trails and 120 acres of forest.

Can I go fishing or swimming?
Nope.

How far from town are you?
About 35 minutes.

Can I bring my pet?
No, sorry.

Are there meeting rooms?
Yes, there is a large gathering room in the Octagon.

Can I just not talk with anybody?
Many people do silent retreats at The Dwelling.

Can my group schedule a retreat here?
Yes, we have room for groups of up to 17 people.

Are kids welcome?
Sometimes. Each situation is considered separately.

Would this be a good place for my church group or 12 step group to come?
Yes, many groups have found The Dwelling to be ideal.
